Sierra Boggess Gracefully Withdraws From Role Amidst Controversy

On April 19th, Playbill announced that Olivier nominee Sierra Boggess would be playing Maria upcoming concert version of West Side Story at London's Royal Albert Hall.

Boggess, who has appeared on Broadway in The Little Mermaid, The Phantom of the Opera, Love Never Dies, and School of Rock, is currently starring opposite four-time Tony winner Boyd Gaines in the world premiere of The Age of Innocence at Hartford Stage.

The theatre community was quick to voice their opinion on a non-latina actress portraying the role of Puerto Rican-born Maria.

On April 23, Boggess finally took to Facebook to apologize and step down from the role.
